Turbat
Turbat is a small town in Balochistan, the administrative center of Kech District and Turbat Tehsil. Turbat is situated on the left bank of the Kech River, a tributary of Dasht River.
The town has natural borders of Makran Range to the north and east, and descends to coastal plains in the south. It is marketplace for dates grown in the surrounding region and has a date-processing factory. Jowar (sorghum), barley, wheat, and rice are also grown, and livestock are raised. It is said that over 300 different varieties of dates are grown here in Turbat. Turbat takes its name from Koh-e-Murad, is a shrine located in this area - Turbat means "shrine" in the local language. The shrine is of Hazrat Muhammad Jaunpuri a sufi saint specially respected by Zikris sect of Muslims. The followers of Zikri sect gather here annually on the night of 27th Ramadan for a meditation ritual visit to this shrine. Turbat is a place in Baloch folklore and literature - home of Punnu, the male character of the Sufi legend Sassi & Punnu. The remains of Punnu's fort can still be seen here. |

History
Turbat was ruled in ancient times by the Gichki Tribes of Makran. It was then the headquarter of the Makran State and the Nawab of Makran resided in Shahi Tump. When the Makran State was dissolved, Turbat remained the Division headquarter.

Take the Makran Coastal highway (N-10 East) from Gwadar and after 135km, take a left on to Turbat Road. |
Sights
The ruins of Punnu Fort are situated about 15 km from Turbat. Punnu Fort could date back to 6000-8000 BC.

Koh-e-Murad is a famous shrine in Turbat. It is a holy place for Zikris where they usually offer their prayers.

Mirani Dam is a concrete-faced rock-filled dam located on the Dasht River south of the central Makran Range.
