Kotri Barrage is a barrage on the Indus River near Hyderabad in Sindh, was built in 1932 and opened in 1955. Kotri Barrage is used to control water flow in the River Indus for irrigation and flood control purposes. It is also known as the Ghulam Muhammad Barrage.
It is a gate-controlled weir type barrage with a navigation lock, with discharge capacity of 875,000 cusecs. The barrage has 44 bays, each 60 feet (18 m) wide and runs a length of 1.6 km. The maximum flood level height of Kotri Barrage is 43.1 feet. It feeds Fulleli, Pinyari and Kolari Canals. The channels deriving from it serve a cultivable area of about five million acres of ground generating both foodstuff and crops.
