History and Story
The Bombay Bakery was established in 1911 by Mr. Pahlajrai Gangaram Thadani as a modest bakery in the Saddar area of Hyderabad Sindh. It was due to his persistent and persuasive approach that the Cantonment authority of Hyderabad Sindh granted him permission to build the bakery on its current location and it was completed in 1924.
From its very beginning the current building was planned and designed by him as a bakery-in-a-bungalow. He moved in with his family of 3 sons - Shamdas, Kishinchand, and Gopichand. The Bombay Bakery established itself for the production of high quality confectionery items such as bread, biscuits, and cakes. Pahlajrai along with his 3 sons and the help of reliable employees developed a reputation for using genuine and authentic ingredients in their products.
Mr Pahlajrai died in 1948, but his sons continued to run the bakery. It was Kishinchand Thadani who, with his creative and innovative approach, developed the delicious recipes for a great variety of cakes and biscuits which are used even today. After Kishinchand’s death in 1960, Gopichand and Kishinchand's son Kumar continued to take care of The Bombay Bakery.
Kumar Thadani, was a great philanthropist and a perfectionist. He continued to maintain the high standards established by his elders. He was very charismatic and social and the business really flourished under his care. When he passed away in June 2010, a great many people mourned his death.
After his death The Bombay Bakery passed on to his family and is currently run by his son Sonu.
